§ 18-49. Authority and purpose.
(a)
This article is enacted pursuant to F.S. ch. 401 and F.S. § 125.01(1)(n). The purpose of this article is to promote the health, safety and welfare of residents of the county in need of life support services by establishing standards for issuing certificates of public convenience and necessity for emergency medical transport services, advanced life support services, basic life support services air ambulances and wheelchair transport services and providing for the adoption of regulations governing the operation of such services.
(b)
The board specifically intends that the county fire district shall be solely responsible for administering, providing and overseeing emergency first response advanced life support and basic life support pre-hospital services originating within the county. The county public safety department shall be responsible for overseeing private non-emergency transport services regulated pursuant to this article and ensuring that the role of such services shall be to provide on request interfacility and interhospital non-emergency transportation.
